Mercedes comenzará la Fórmula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2014 de la primera fila de la parrilla, pero era una cosa poderosa estrecha no sólo entre el poleman Lewis Hamilton y su compañero de equipo Nico Rosberg, pero entre las Flechas de Plata y los Red Bulls …
Q1 fue el camino de Ferrari, después de que Hamilton había puesto la marca inicial con los neumáticos blandos de Pirelli con 1m 47.847s. Kimi Raikkonen hizo 1m 46.685s en el extrasuave, que su compañero de equipo Fernando Alonso Ferrari no logró vencer con 1m 46.889s.
Hamilton terminó tercero en 1m 46.921s, mientras Rosberg fue el sexto lugar, sin resolver después de un viaje temprano por un camino de escape como él todavía se estaba acostumbrando a algunos nuevos frenos. De Red Bull Sebastian Vettel también fue bien atrás, en el noveno, después de correr hacia el tráfico en forma de de Daniil Kvyat Toro Rosso.

Jules Bianchi estaba detrás de Caterham de Kamui Kobayashi, hasta los últimos instantes de la Q1, cuando avanzó con decisión para Marussia con 1m 49.440s. El piloto japonés no mejoró su vuelta anterior de 1m 50.405s, y sólo se quedó por delante de la segunda Marussia de Max Chilton, quien tomó su ronda en 1m 50.473s MR03. Marcus Ericsson cerraba la marcha con 1m 52.287s después de retrasos conseguir su Caterham salir a la pista.
Mercedes trasladado de nuevo a la cima en la Q2, pero Rosberg tuvo que utilizar un juego extra de superblandos hacer 1m 45.825s. 1m 46.287s de Hamilton llegaron en su único funcionar, al igual que la tercera mejor vuelta de Alonso de 1m 46.328s.
Jenson Button, de McLaren perdió el Q3 cortar por 0.017s a Kvyat, dejando al campeón del mundo de 2009 en el puesto 11 en 1m 46.943s por delante de de Jean-Eric Vergne Toro Rosso en 1m 46.989s, de Nico Hulkenberg de Force India en 1m 47.308s, Sauber de Esteban Gutiérrez en 1m 47.333s, y Sergio Pérez en el segundo Force India en 1m 47.575s.
Grosjean fue el más lento de los corredores Q2, lamiendo 1m 47.812s en, y después el francés descargó su frustración por el desempeño de su motor Renault.
Williams ‘Felipe Massa fue la sorpresa pacesetter temprano en la Q3, correr nuevos superblandos de 1m 46.007s como Hamilton y Rosberg fueron sólo sexto y séptimo respectivamente el caucho nuevo. Pero como todo el mundo bar Rosberg – quien se vio obligado a utilizar neumáticos fregados – fue a Nueva superblandos para sus segundas carreras, el alemán le arrebató la iniciativa con 1m 45.688s sólo para que Hamilton se lo quite por siete milésimas de segundo con 1m 45.681s . Nos dijeron que la mala noticia por la radio, Rosberg tuvo una sola palabra de respuesta: «¡Maldita sea!»
Detrás de ellos Daniel Ricciardo fue tercero para Red Bull en 1m 45.854s como Vettel sólo se presentó el Ferrari de Alonso, con 1m 45.902s 1m 45.907s a. 
Massa se llevó el sexto lugar con 1m 46.000s, pero Raikkonen se quejó de pérdida de poder como él registró 1m 46.170s en el segundo Ferrari. Valtteri Bottas puso el segundo Williams en el octavo lugar en 1m 46.187s, dejando de McLaren Kevin Magnussen y Kvyat compartir la quinta fila con 1m 46.250s 1m 47.362s y respectivamente.
Así, la red se formará: Hamilton, Rosberg; Ricciardo, Vettel; Alonso, Massa; Raikkonen, Bottas; Magnussen, Kvyat; Button, Vergne; Hulkenberg, Gutiérrez; Pérez, Grosjean; Sutil, Maldonado; Bianchi, Kobayashi; Chilton, Ericsson.

Q1 went Ferrari’s way, after Hamilton had set the initial mark on the soft Pirelli tyres with 1m 47.847s. Kimi Raikkonen did 1m 46.685s on the supersoft, which his Ferrari team mate Fernando Alonso failed to beat with 1m 46.889s.
Hamilton ended up third on 1m 46.921s, whilst Rosberg was only sixth, unsettled after an early trip down an escape road as he was still getting used to some new brakes. Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel was also well back, in ninth, after running into traffic in the form of Daniil Kvyat’s Toro Rosso.
Down the back Adrian Sutil was bumped by Lotus’s Romain Grosjean, the Sauber driver’s 1m 48.324s lap leaving him 17th ahead of Pastor Maldonado on 1m 49.063s in the second Lotus. The Venezuelan had earlier taken a trip off the road at Turn 7.
Jules Bianchi was behind Kamui Kobayashi’s Caterham until the dying moments of Q1 when he decisively moved ahead for Marussia with 1m 49.440s. The Japanese driver didn’t improve his previous lap of 1m 50.405s and just stayed ahead of the second Marussia of Max Chilton, who took his MR03 round in 1m 50.473s. Marcus Ericsson brought up the rear with 1m 52.287s after delays getting his Caterham out on to the track.
Mercedes moved back to the top in Q2 but Rosberg had to use an extra set of supersofts to do 1m 45.825s. Hamilton’s 1m 46.287s came on his one and only run, as did Alonso’s third best lap of 1m 46.328s.
McLaren’s Jenson Button missed the Q3 cut by 0.017s to Kvyat, leaving the 2009 world champion in 11th place on 1m 46.943s ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne’s Toro Rosso on 1m 46.989s, Nico Hulkenberg’s Force India on 1m 47.308s, Esteban Gutierrez’s Sauber on 1m 47.333s, and Sergio Perez in the second Force India on 1m 47.575s.
Grosjean was the slowest of the Q2 runners, lapping in 1m 47.812s, and afterwards the Frenchman vented his frustration at the performance of his Renault engine.
Williams’ Felipe Massa was the surprise early pacesetter in Q3, running new supersofts for 1m 46.007s as Hamilton and Rosberg were only sixth and seventh respectively on new rubber. But as everyone bar Rosberg – who was forced to use scrubbed tyres – went to new supersofts for their second runs, the German snatched the initiative with 1m 45.688s only to have Hamilton take it away by seven-thousandths of a second with 1m 45.681s. Told the bad news over the radio, Rosberg had a one-word reply: «Dammit!»
Behind them Daniel Ricciardo was third for Red Bull on 1m 45.854s as Vettel just held off Alonso’s Ferrari, with 1m 45.902s to 1m 45.907s.
Massa took sixth with 1m 46.000s, but Raikkonen complained of loss of power as he recorded 1m 46.170s in the second Ferrari. Valtteri Bottas put the second Williams into eighth place on 1m 46.187s, leaving McLaren’s Kevin Magnussen and Kvyat to share the fifth row with 1m 46.250s and 1m 47.362s respectively.
Thus the grid will form: Hamilton, Rosberg; Ricciardo, Vettel; Alonso, Massa; Raikkonen, Bottas; Magnussen, Kvyat; Button, Vergne; Hulkenberg, Gutierrez; Perez, Grosjean; Sutil, Maldonado; Bianchi, Kobayashi; Chilton, Ericsson.
